At Exubia, we are passionate about creating workplaces that connect people with nature, and this project of ours in Angel exemplifies this ethos. Spanning an impressive 250,000 square feet across five floors, this office space offered us the opportunity to push the boundaries of biophilic design.

Here’s a closer look at how we brought this ambitious vision to life:

This project was really was a testament to our teams resilience and adaptability, but our love of plants outshone the setbacks from the pandemic, and we love the result.

There were a multitude of reasons why our client made the choice to incorporate planting within the office, from general aesthetic to theories around productivity. Exubia where our preferred choice of Vendor due to their flexibility, alignment with the clients Vision and competitive pricing structures. We are lucky enough to have 2 full-time on-site handlers who oversee all maintenance and upkeep of our extensive range of plants throughout the whole building and are great with client interactions and ad hoc adaptations/requests. I think it is safe to say to say that the office would not be the same space or working environment if it weren’t for Exubia’s incredible biophilia

Every choice in the project was done with the people in mind, with floor-specific themes throughout, each bringing it’s own flare and characteristics to the space.

Working closely with the designers of the project, we carried this idea through the planting, choosing plants and planters to suit their vision and embody those themes.

We also worked closely with the fit-out contractors due to the vast amount of bespoke joinery we designed to ensure cohesion with the natural flow of the space.

This project really had it all, with the use of varied planting types such as faux, live, bespoke joinery, ceiling features, exterior, tabletops, floor-standing and a bespoke feature tree per floor that was cohesive with the themes.

This project took 2 years to complete, with Covid hitting the project sideways mid-way through.

With the closure of the office, the entire direction of the project came under scrutiny leading to a complete redesign of the space. For us, this meant reallocating existing plants throughout the space to cater for the lack of use without jeopardising the aesthetics.

Additionally, due to the scale of the space, lighting solutions played a huge role in the biophilic design, and, our team had incorporated motion sensor lights for low-light levels.

However, with no staff attendance and maintenance visits by our team restricted, this came in for review and new lighting solutions brought in.
